USATF Results, Ribbons for Last Meet, and XC in the fall

Track parents-

We had some great performances from our kids at the Fitchburg USATF meet on Saturday, with a number of top-3 finishes and a greater number of athletes qualifying for the regional (New England + NY) meet next month in New York City. The results are posted on the longmeadowtrack.org website.

Lucille Kelly and Kessler Despain took home two medals each and qualified in three events. Kessler won the shot, took third in the long jump, and was in the top 8 in the 100. Lucille won the turbo javelin, took third in the long jump, and was in the top 8 in the 100. Delaney Ringbloom was 3rd in the 400 and 4th in the 100.

Will Riess had a huge PR in the shot put, increasing his best throw by a meter, 10.77 for second in the shot. He was also top 6 in the long jump. Burleigh Grant was 3rd in the shot put. Nicholas Cassidy took 1st in the 100m hurdles, by a big margin, actually. Parker Cullen, Tarin Cass, Lucas Doben, and Madelyn Mennella all qualified for the NYC meet

There were also a bunch of special performances that did not win medals. Matthew Streck had one of the most exciting finishes in the 400 I have seen in a long time with a furious sprint on the home straightaway for a big PR. Ada Grant joined the sub-6 miler club with a 5:32 in the 1500m, which translates into a 5:57 1600m. William Beagle also had a strong run in the 1500m.

Ribbons

The ribbons will be available at the Parks and Rec office at the Community House next week. It took a little longer because there were something like 400 ribbons to do. This is a good point to recognize just how much work Doug and Kerrin Morrin have been doing on this front. To do the black improvement ribbons, Doug has to first update the best performances spreadsheet for all our athletes in all the events, and then Kerrin and our ribbons team has to fill out all the ribbons. And we did 8 events on June 9. It takes a village to run a track program.

Cross Country

Registration is open on the Longmeadow Parks and Rec website for the fall cross country. It might even be more fun than track & field.
