Track parents and guardians-

This email is a two-parter, with separate information for the Elementary meet at Longmeadow High School and then the Middle School Meet in Deerfield.

1. Elementary meet at LHS

The meet will be run in 2 shifts. Grades 1-3 will be first, with the gun going off at 8:30 for the first event, Grades 4-5 are next. Elementary should wear their color (blue, green, or red) T-shirts.

The order of events and further information are below. *If your child is doing high jump,* please note that Grades 4-5 need to arrive early at 8:30 so they can do high jump while the running events for Grades 1-3 are happening. High jumpers for Grades 1-3 will do high jump after all the running events for that age group are completed.

May 3 Order of Events (all field events occur at same time as running events)

8:30 am: 200m Grades 1-3 (girls then boys)

8:30 am: High Jump Grades 4-5 (girls and boys together)

80m hurdles Grades 1-3 (girls then boys)

9:00 am: Grades 4-5 (non-high jumpers) arrive

800m Grades 1-5 (girls and boys combined)

9:15 am (approx) High Jump Grades 1-3 (girls and boys together)

80m hurdles Grades 4-5 (girls then boys)

200m Grades 4-5 (girls then boys)

Field Events (taking place at same time as running events):

Long jump

Turbo Javelin

Shot put

In the event of a conflict between a running event and field event, the running event takes priority. Your child should leave the field event after telling the official, go to the running event, and then return to complete the field event.

Bib Number

Your child must wear his/her bib number. Please RETAIN your bib number for the rest of the season. You will use it at each meet. If you have lost your bib number, please go to the scorer's table for assistance.

Uniforms

If you have not yet picked up your uniform pack with your bib, we will have those near the blue tent.

Water Bottles: don't forget your own water bottle (1 quart).

Sunscreen: It is very easy to get burned this time of the year. Apply sunscreen early and often!

2. Bement invitational Instructions (Middle School)

Getting there. Some kids will be taking the bus, and some of you have elected to drive up there yourself. The bus leaves at 8 am from in front of Center School, Longmeadow, 837 Longmeadow Street. The bus will return after the meet to the same place. If your child is taking the bus up to the meet and going back with you, you need to let coaches Alex Eaton or Dan Sacco know.

The official address of the Deerfield Academy campus is 7 Boyden Lane, Deerfield, MA, but that’s not the address of the Deerfield track. Here are the directions from the meet director on how to get to the track: “Directions to the Deerfield Academy track are quite simple. The academy is located off Rte. 5 & 10 in the center of the historic village of Deerfield, and Albany Road bisects the western half of the campus. If you follow Albany Road to the end, then bear right down the hill, you will come to the track. Deerfield Academy Security officials will be available to direct buses.” He did not give a street address of the track, so you might want to use 7 Boyden Lane address in your GPS to get to the campus and then follow the above directions.

Events. The order of events can be found on the document on the longmeadowtrack.org homepage and also attached to this email. Field events are starting at 9:30, followed by running events starting at 10:30 am (not 11:00 as originally indicated on the order of events).

At this meet, there is a limit of 2 running and 2 field events per athlete. Because relays count toward the 2 running events, and because of the danger of not being able to run a relay event if one person drops out, we have decided not to field relay teams unless there is both interest on the part of the athletes and the meet director allows us to add relay teams tomorrow.

The meet also imposed a limit of three athletes in high jump per team (for both boys and girls) and a limit of five athletes (for both boys and girls) for long jump because those events tend to take a long time. Some people who wanted to do high jump and/or long jump could not be entered. We tried, in fairness, to remove one of those events from kids who had signed up for four events, or who had signed up for both high jump and long jump. The athlete entries are attached to this email.

Uniforms and bib numbers. Please wear your white/black uniforms. We will get special bib numbers for this meet. Your child will NOT be wearing the Longmeadow bib numbers we issued at the beginning of the season. Leave those home. When we arrive at the meet tomorrow, the coaches will receive a packet of bib numbers to distribute to the kids. Your child won’t be able to compete without one of these Bement bib numbers on the front of their shirts.

If you are one of the athletes who needed an adult small female singlet (or your whole uniform packet) and did not get it yet, the coaches will have those on the bus and at the meet site.

Water and sunscreen. Save your child from dehydration and a bad sunburn by bringing lots of water (1 quart) and sunscreen.

Coach Alex
