Race Results and Upcoming USATF meet

Our middle schoolers turned in some nice performances at the Western Massachusetts Invitational on Thursday. Henry Sacco was our top boy runner, coming in 35th, and Ada Grant finished 3rd in the girls' race. The results are posted on the website, longmeadowtrack.org. USATF Meet Our last meet of the season is the USA Track and Field (USATF) Junior Olympic meet on November 11 in Nashua, NH (our calendar says Amherst, NH, but it has been moved to Nashua; the November 4 developmental race in Amherst has also been taken off). This meet is optional, and for the elementary school runners, it is the day before the Massachusetts Elementary School Invitational in Lynn, MA. The USATF meet brings tog

XC this week

We've got a bunch of stuff going on this week: Monday: Come see the LHS XC teams compete against East Longmeadow and Central at Forest Park. I plan to be out there, and I expect to see some alums from our track and XC programs out there. The high school coach tells me that the races will start at 4 (or a little after) at the ball fields in front of the Walker grandstand. Tuesday: Regular practice for Elementary and Middle School at Wolf Swamp fields. Middle schoolers should bring signed waivers for the Granby meet, if they haven't already. Wednesday: Special Practice for Elementary only at WS fields because Cari will be out of town Thursday. Thursday: Western Mass. Middle School Invit

Elementary XC Parents - Practice next week, Upcoming Championships in Lynn, MA

Hello XC Elementary Parents! Just a quick note regarding a few upcoming scheduling items: * Next week, practice will be moved from Thursday, October 25th to Wednesday, October 24th. My apologies for the late notice. I will be out of town on the 25th and the middle-school runners will be at an away meet. We will plan to meet on Wednesday at Wolf Swamp fields at 5 p.m. Again, no practice on Thursday. I hope to see you there! * The Massachusetts Elementary School Cross Country Championships in Lynn, MA, are fast approaching on Monday, November 12th (Veterans Day Holiday). We ran this race last year and it is a lot of fun on a beautiful golf course. There are 2 races to choose from: 1.2 mi

Middle School Granby Meet and tomorrow (Thurs)

Middle School parents- As I mentioned earlier, the Western Mass. Middle School XC Invitational is next Thursday, October 25 in Dufresne Park, Granby, MA. The first race is at 4:10. We have a bus taking us there and back. This is a half day for Glenbrook and Williams, so the Longmeadow kids will get dismissed and then have to come back to school to pick up the bus. The bus will leave Birchland Park at 2:10, Glenbrook at 2:20, and Williams at 2:30. This should give us enough time to walk the course before the race. The bus will return back to these same schools. Please let me know--one way or the other--if your child is running and whether he/she will be on the bus. Our entries are due

Race Results, Upcoming races, this week

XC Parents- Youth was not served this morning. In an interesting sub-plot of the season, Dan Sacco has been battling with a couple of our top runners, Henry Sacco and Ada Grant. In a familiar pattern, Dan takes a lead, and then the two kids, working together, stalk their prey, and have managed to get him at the end. Not today. Dan set a strong pace and a season best, and Henry and Ada were unable to catch him. Results are attached and are on the longmeadowtrack.org website. The Wayland XC Festival results are also on the website. In other news, coach Cari ran the Hartford marathon in the cold and rain in 3:00:46. That's averaging a sub-7:00 mile over 26.2. She was the 3rd female mast

Longmeadow Cross Country Mile this Saturday

The 4th and final Longmeadow Cross Country Mile of 2018 will be this Saturday, October 13 at 9 am at the Wolf Swamp fields. As always, it is just $1 and open to kids and adults. Free for kids in the XC program. A good tune-up for a 5K. Arrive at 8:45 am to sign the waiver.

Wayland XC Festival Details

XC Parents- Sunday's meet should be a lot of fun. It is a well-run event on a real cross country course. I am attaching again the entry form, which has the details about the race. You can also check out the website, waylandxc.com. The first race, at 9 am, is the 10 and under race, with boys and girls running together. The girls 11-14 race is at 9:30 and the boys 11-14 race is at 10 am. Cari and I are planning to arrive by 8 am to pick up the team's bib numbers and to walk the course. I think it is always a good idea to walk an XC course first, even if you're not planning on leading the race. After the first race starts, it gets to be difficult to walk the course, as you have to stay out

No Practice Today (Wed) / MS practice tomorrow at Forest Park

I am really sorry to send conflicting messages to the group, but we are not having practice today after all. Please try to have your kids run on their own 2-3 miles. Cari and I wanted to have a make-up practice, but it turns out we are both pulled in other directions today and could not pull it off. Reminder that we have our regular practice Thursday. Middle Schoolers are at Forest Park--meeting location is attached. Elementary at Wolf Swamp fields.
