Track Meets this week, practices, and extra Monday session
Track parents- Results are up on the website for our 1K and 2K cross country races yesterday at the Wolf Swamp fields. A shout-out to Gabe Macias for setting the 2K course record with a time of 7:29. We have a busy, busy week. Thursday, May 31 is the middle school meet vs. Amherst. The bus will pick up the kids from Glenbrook and Williams middle schools. We leave right after school and the meet begins around 4:00. We want EVERY middle schooler to run this meet. I will em
Reminder: Cross Country Race Saturday Morning at 8:30
Track parents- Just a reminder that our cross country race will be Saturday morning at 8:30 at the Wolf Swamp fields. The race is open to parents and siblings. You will need to arrive at 8:15 to sign up and sign the waiver. The kids in the program just need to show up--no need for numbers. They should wear their color T-shirts or white singlet. Group 1 will do a 1K (1000m) course, and everyone else will do the 2K (2000m) course. Next week, we have a really busy week. The
USATF Meet Information June 16
Parents- Our last meet of the season is the USA Track and Field (USATF) Junior Olympic meet on June 16 in Fitchburg. As I indicated on the calendar on the website, this meet is optional. The USATF meet brings together runners from MA, RI, NH, and VT. Junior Olympic athletes compete in age groups, like we have done in our meets. The age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14) are equivalent to our Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4, as the child's age is determined as of December 31, 2018. Al
Middle School Meet Sign-Ups
Middle School track parents- I am going to be talking to the kids about the May 31 Amherst Middle School meet (we are taking a bus) and the June 2 Massachusetts Middle School Championship tomorrow at practice. I will circulate a handout, which I am also attaching to this email. Read over the handout--some of it repeats information I have sent out before, and the rest adds a few nuggets of logistical information. A couple of big takeaways: FOR THE JUNE 2 state meet: I need y
This Week's Races, Practices, and Extra Monday Session
Track parents- It is time to lace up your OWN shoes. This Saturday, May 26, we will be at the Wolf Swamp fields at 8:30 am for our cross country races. There will be two races. One race, a 1K (1000 meters), will be for Group 1 only. The 2K race (2000 meters or 1.24 mi.) will be for everyone else, including parents and siblings. No sign-ups for this one. Just show up with your color T-shirt. This is a prelude to our final home meet, June 9, where parents and siblings may
Today's Practice and Saturday
Track Parents- Reminder that today's practice is at the LHS track, 5-6 pm. There will be no practice on Saturday due to the middle schoolers being at the Bement Invitational and conflicts with the Longmeadow Days 5K and the elementary school students taking part in the parade. Also, the results from the Bloomfield meet are posted on the website. I neglected to mention the other 1600m runner from my prior email. Ellison Baldwin from Group 2 had a nice run, as did many others
Last Call for Bement Invitational Entries
Middle School Track parents- If you haven't signed up on the website for Bement yet, please do so today by 7 pm. Remember 2 running events and 2 field events maximum here. I have to email our entries to the meet director tonight. Thanks! This will be a great meet for our kids. Alex
Sign Up Open for Bement Invitational
Middle School track parents- I received the meet information from the Bement coach today, and I have posted it on the website, longmeadowtrack.org. The meet is Saturday, 5/19 at Deerfield Academy, with field events beginning at 9:30 am and running events beginning at 11 am. Check out the home page and the "Bement Invitational" tab on the website for the order of events and more information. I don't think, as I suggested at an earlier email, that the meet will be complete b
Track this week, Bloomfield, & Monday extra session
Track parents- A bunch of you endured some rainy weather on Saturday for the Bloomfield Invitational. There was some top notch competition with a bunch of track clubs from MA & CT. These are the kind of clubs that will be at the USATF meet in June. The team from Haverhill, MA ("Haverhill Elite Track Club") won the meet, but we had some nice performances and a bunch of PRs. Those setting season-best marks will get black improvement ribbons, but we had a number of kids also
