Track Meets this week, practices, and extra Monday session

Track parents- Results are up on the website for our 1K and 2K cross country races yesterday at the Wolf Swamp fields. A shout-out to Gabe Macias for setting the 2K course record with a time of 7:29. We have a busy, busy week. Thursday, May 31 is the middle school meet vs. Amherst. The bus will pick up the kids from Glenbrook and Williams middle schools. We leave right after school and the meet begins around 4:00. We want EVERY middle schooler to run this meet. I will email the details about the bus pickup and dropoff in a separate email to middle school parents. If you have not signed up on the website, please do so we know who will be on the bus and what events they are running. Satu

You will need to arrive at 8:15 to sign up and sign the waiver. The kids in the program just need to show up--no need for numbers. They should wear their color T-shirts or white singlet. Group 1 will do a 1K (1000m) course, and everyone else will do the 2K (2000m) course. Next week, we have a really busy week. The middle schoolers are going to Amherst on the bus on May 31. Sign up is open on the website for that. June 2 is our regular track meet at LHS against Ludlow. Sign up is open now on the website. Deadline is Wednesday,

USATF Meet Information June 16

Parents- Our last meet of the season is the USA Track and Field (USATF) Junior Olympic meet on June 16 in Fitchburg. As I indicated on the calendar on the website, this meet is optional. The USATF meet brings together runners from MA, RI, NH, and VT. Junior Olympic athletes compete in age groups, like we have done in our meets. The age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14) are equivalent to our Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4, as the child's age is determined as of December 31, 2018. All of the events we have done in the program will be offered at this meet, except USATF runs the 1500m instead of the 1600m. Here is the link for information about the USATF meet:

Middle School Meet Sign-Ups

Middle School track parents- I am going to be talking to the kids about the May 31 Amherst Middle School meet (we are taking a bus) and the June 2 Massachusetts Middle School Championship tomorrow at practice. I will circulate a handout, which I am also attaching to this email. Read over the handout--some of it repeats information I have sent out before, and the rest adds a few nuggets of logistical information. A couple of big takeaways: FOR THE JUNE 2 state meet: I need you to email me back by this Friday, May 25 at 5 pm about the event(s) your child will do, the qualifying mark they have done or expect to be able to do by June 2, and the middle school he/she attends. For the Amherst mee

This Week's Races, Practices, and Extra Monday Session

Track parents- It is time to lace up your OWN shoes. This Saturday, May 26, we will be at the Wolf Swamp fields at 8:30 am for our cross country races. There will be two races. One race, a 1K (1000 meters), will be for Group 1 only. The 2K race (2000 meters or 1.24 mi.) will be for everyone else, including parents and siblings. No sign-ups for this one. Just show up with your color T-shirt. This is a prelude to our final home meet, June 9, where parents and siblings may also run select events. More information to come. The Monday Extra Session (5/21) will be for Groups 3 and 4 throwers and distance runners at the Wolf Swamp fields, 5-6 pm. Tuesday, May 22, we will have practice 5-6 pm

Today's Practice and Saturday

Track Parents- Reminder that today's practice is at the LHS track, 5-6 pm. There will be no practice on Saturday due to the middle schoolers being at the Bement Invitational and conflicts with the Longmeadow Days 5K and the elementary school students taking part in the parade. Also, the results from the Bloomfield meet are posted on the website. I neglected to mention the other 1600m runner from my prior email. Ellison Baldwin from Group 2 had a nice run, as did many others who competed. There are two versions of the results, one with just Longmeadow runners, the other with all athletes at the meet. Alex

Last Call for Bement Invitational Entries

Middle School Track parents- If you haven't signed up on the website for Bement yet, please do so today by 7 pm. Remember 2 running events and 2 field events maximum here. I have to email our entries to the meet director tonight. Thanks! This will be a great meet for our kids. Alex

Sign Up Open for Bement Invitational

Middle School track parents- I received the meet information from the Bement coach today, and I have posted it on the website, The meet is Saturday, 5/19 at Deerfield Academy, with field events beginning at 9:30 am and running events beginning at 11 am. Check out the home page and the "Bement Invitational" tab on the website for the order of events and more information. I don't think, as I suggested at an earlier email, that the meet will be complete by 12:00, but I don't expect it will be an all-day affair as was the Bloomfield meet. Since this is a middle school meet, there are not separate age groups and that speeds things up. The limit is 2 running events and 2 f

Track this week, Bloomfield, & Monday extra session

Track parents- A bunch of you endured some rainy weather on Saturday for the Bloomfield Invitational. There was some top notch competition with a bunch of track clubs from MA & CT. These are the kind of clubs that will be at the USATF meet in June. The team from Haverhill, MA ("Haverhill Elite Track Club") won the meet, but we had some nice performances and a bunch of PRs. Those setting season-best marks will get black improvement ribbons, but we had a number of kids also placing in the top 6 in their event and getting medals. I will give a special shout-out to our 1600m runners, all of whom set personal records: Ada Grant 6:11, Aiden Cass 5:53, William Cowley 6:04, Mitchell Aarons 6:4

Bloomfield tomorrow

Track parents- Those of you who signed up for the Bloomfield meet on website have been entered in the meet tomorrow Just a few practical tips: 1. Review the information on the website,, about the order of events, directions, and other information about the meet under the "Bloomfield Meet" tab. 2. You will get new bib numbers--don't bring your Longmeadow track bib numbers. Cari, Doug Morrin, and I will be there early to get our bib numbers from the meet organizers and we will hand them out when you arrive. Come to our tent when you arrive. 3. We will have our tent set up, and Doug is bringing another tent. If anybody else can bring a tent, that would help--let me kn

Mark your calendars--May 19 for Bement Invitational

Middle School track parents- I had indicated to you a couple of days ago that I had hoped we would be going to the Bement Invitational, but I had not heard back. Well, the Bement coach got back to me and they are happy to have us! It will be at 9:30 am at Deerfield Academy. I will be receiving the details in a couple of days and will forward them to you, including the events and how to sign up. This is a great opportunity to compete as a program against middle schools in western Massachusetts at a top notch facility. Alex

Middle School Track Meets

You are receiving this email because I believe, based on the information I have, that your child is in middle school. If I should remove you from the list, let me know. We have two special Middle School meets coming up--May 31 at Amherst Middle School and June 2 at the Massachusetts Middle School championship. I had hoped we would be invited to the Bement Invitational (put on by a private school in Deerfield) on May 19, but we have not. Track and Cross Country are increasingly becoming middle school sports in western Massachusetts, matching a trend that has been underway in eastern Massachusetts for some time. This provides opportunities not open to our elementary school students. The May

Results, Practice this Week, and Sign-ups for Bloomfield due Tuesday

Track Parents- Meet #3 had 205 athletes from Longmeadow and Wilbraham turn in 475 individual performances. It was great fun to run against another program. We will be having a similar meet on June 2 against Ludlow. The results are posted on the website, Go to the section "Results" and the subsection "2018 Track Results." Parents and siblings can run in two of our upcoming meets. On May 26, we will be having a cross-country race at the Wolf Swamp fields, and like our cross-country races in the fall, parents and siblings can run. The race will be 2K. On June 9, the final intraprogram meet will be "family fun day," part of a long tradition in the Longmeadow

Order of Events for tomorrow and Bloomfield Meet 5/12

Track Parents- We are looking forward to a great meet tomorrow with Wilbraham. Below is the order of events. Be sure to wear the white singlet with the bib number on the front. If you are having an issue with the number, go to the table under the tent. Sign-ups are open for the Bloomfield meet on 5/12. Go to the website and look for the "Bloomfield Meet" tab. Read up on the meet. This meet will last most of the day, the competition will be tougher, and there is a $5 fee for spectators. The entry fee for the athletes is covered by Parks and Rec. There is a *hard* deadline of Tuesday at 5 pm because this meet does not accept late registrations. Be sure to have a full quart of water and

Last Call for Sign-ups and tomorrow's practice

Track parents- The deadline for signing up for this Saturday's meet with Wilbraham is today (Wednesday) at 5pm. Go to the website,, and choose the Longmeadow Team form (not Wilbraham's). The kids will be wearing their white singlets and bib numbers and it should be a blast. Reminder that tomorrow's track practice will be at the LHS track. It will be very hot--be sure your child has a full quart of water. Finally, a reminder the parent duty schedule has been on the website all season--it is one of the prominent tabs at the top of the home page. Everybody checked a box about the volunteer commitment when they registered and we offered in an earlier email to r
