Meet Results, This Week, and a new extra Monday session

Track Parents- Meet #2 had 154 athletes turn in 432 individual performances in 7 different events, and we managed to finish at 11:07. Thank you to everyone who took their turn in everything from timing to measuring to data entry. HOLD onto your bib--you will need it all season. The results are posted on the website, http://www.longmeadowtrack.org. Go to the section "Results" and the subsection "2018 Track Results." Note there are two sections to the document--running events are at the beginning and field events are at the end. Practice this Week. This week we will be practicing at the Wolf Swamp fields on Tuesday 5-6 pm and at Longmeadow High School track on Thursday, 5-6 pm. Keep in mi

Last Call for Saturday Meet Sign-Ups and Practice tomorrow

Track parents- The deadline for signing up for Saturday's meet is today (Wednesday) at 5 pm. Go to the website, http://www.longmeadowtrack.org, and submit the form. It takes about 30 seconds. Reminder that tomorrow's (Thursday) practice is at the Wolf Swamp fields due to a conflicting high school event at the track. Also, if you are looking for running opportunities for your child this summer, check out a new offering from Parks and Rec. It's a cross country and track clinic July 16-20, 9-11 am. It is run by the LHS cross country and track coach, Christine Kervian. She and her girls did a clinic for our youth cross country kids last fall, and the XC kids loved it. http://www.longmeadow.

Running over April break

Track parents- Our next regular practice will be April 24, after the school break, but I will be holding practices next Tuesday (4/17) and Thursday (4/19) 5-6pm for Groups 3 and 4 distance runners only. Because of a high school track meet, Tuesday's practice will be at the Wolf Swamp fields. Thursday's will be back at the Longmeadow track. For everyone else, I would encourage your kids to run on their own, up to 3-4 times over the course of the week. The great thing about this sport is that your running route is as close as the sidewalk in front of your house. Easy jogging, at whatever pace they can maintain, for 1-2 miles is very beneficial at this stage of the season. If they want to

Track Meet Results and this week

Track Parents- We had a great start to the season with our first meet on Saturday. 144 athletes competed, the most ever in the history of the program. We were able to finish the last event at 11:02, which was a testament to the efficiency and dedication of our parent volunteers and coaches. Thank you to everyone who took their turn in everything from timing to measuring to data entry. It takes a village to put on a track meet. BTW, HOLD onto your bib--you will need it all season. The results are posted on the website, http://www.longmeadowtrack.org. Go to the section "Results" and the subsection "2018 Track Results." Note there are two sections to the document--running events are at t

Thursday Track Practice Moved and Last Call for Saturday Meet Sign-ups

Track Parents & Coaches- 1. Tomorrow. Because the boys high school team had their meet moved to Thursday, we are bumped from the track, and we will be practicing at the Wolf Swamp fields tomorrow at 5 pm. Keep in mind the bathrooms are closed because of the recent cold weather. Speaking of which, it will be cold and blustery tomorrow--dress accordingly. I am a big fan of a knit hat and gloves when running in cold weather. 2. Meet Sign-ups. DEADLINE is today at 5 pm. Go to the website, www.longmeadowtrack.org, type in your child's name and select their events. It takes 30 seconds. If you signed up two weeks ago or earlier (this is just a few people), please sign up again as there wa

Track this week

Track parents- Some important information: 1. Practice starts this week Tuesday (4/3) and Thursday (4/5) at LHS. 2. Please sign-up for Saturday's meet (April 7) on the website, http://www.longmeadowtrack.org. It takes about 30 seconds to type in your child's name and click on the events your child wants to do. DEADLINE is Wednesday, April 4 at 5 pm. We need that lead time in order to set up the heat sheets and to organize the meet--and to avoid our beleaguered volunteers from staying up until 2 am on Friday. 3. Volunteer commitment. The parent duty sheet is posted on the website. Everyone is assigned to do timing (or a similar job) at one meet, except the folks who have volunteered
